Adam and Eve Allegory
In the Old Testament allegorical story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of
Eden, we have the 7 days of creation story. Picking up the story on the 6th
day, we have in Genesis 1:24 text that reads:
And God said,
Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; let them
have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and
over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every walking thing that
strides upon the earth."
So God created man in his own image; in the image of God he created them,
male and female. And God blessed them, and God said, "Be fruitful and
multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over...
everything that move upon the earth."
And God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed which is
upon the entire surface of the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit.
You shall have them for food..." And it was so.
And God looked upon everything that he had created, and behold, it was very
good. And there was bright time and dim time, the sixth day...
And the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, to the east; and he placed there the
man that he had fashioned. Out of the ground the Lord God caused to grow
every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food, the tree of life
also in the midst of the garden including the tree of knowledge of good and
The Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate
it and maintain it. The Lord God charged the man, saying, "You have liberty
to eat of every tree of the garden except the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil; of it you shall not eat, for in that day of eating from it you
shall surely die."
Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for man to be alone; I will fashion
for him a supporter suitable for him." Thus, out of the ground the Lord God
fashioned every beast of the field, and every bird of the air, and brought
them to the man to see what he would call them... The man provided names for
them all... yet for the man there was no helpmate suitable for him. So, the
Lord God caused a deep unconsciousness to come upon the man, and while he
was unconscious, he took one of his ribs and sealed up its place with flesh.
And the rib which he had taken from the man he fashioned into a woman and
brought her to the man.
Then the man said, "This now exists as bone of my bone and flesh of my
flesh; she shall be called woman, because she was taken from out of man."
We all know what happens next. Catching Eve alone, the wily serpent beguiled
her with the prospect of gaining knowledge and not paying the penalty by
dying. She bought the premise, ate the fruit, didn't die, and brought the
fruit to Adam, who also ate the fruit with her. Then their awareness was
expanded, they felt exposed, and fashioned loincloths for themselves.
What happened in the Genesis story:
They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of
the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves, among the trees of the
garden, from the presence of the Lord God. But the Lord God called to the
man and asked him, "Where are you?" And he said to him, "I heard your sound
in the garden and I was afraid, because I was exposed, and I hid myself." He
said, "Who told you that you were exposed? Have you eaten from the tree that
I commanded you to not eat?" The man said, "The woman that you provided to
be with me gave me the fruit of the tree, and I ate." Then the Lord God said
to the woman, "What is this that you have done?" The woman said, "The
serpent induced me, and I ate."
Then things went downhill fast. The "Lord God" cursed the serpent, and laid
a curse upon Eve, and then Adam. Wow! The great loving forgiving "God"
cursed Eve for wanting knowledge, and cursed Adam for loving his woman and
being willing to share her fate? Really?!
What should have happened in the allegory within the IFISEEU paradigm?:
Adam and Eve approached the Lord God walking in their garden , and Adam said
to him, "Welcome to our garden. By the way, we DID eat the fruit of the tree
of knowledge of good and evil. Do you have a problem with that?"
"No, on the contrary, I do not."
"Then why did you tell us not to eat of that tree?"
"To see if you were willing to be free from fear as equal, sovereign human
beings, free from law and being dominated; OR, whether you would choose
to be afraid as inferiors, and owned, controlled, commanded by others, and
subject to law. NOW I know! I desire to have peers, but equals cannot
be created because they must create equality in themselves to be truly equal.
Now I know I have succeeded in having children Gods worthy of the term. This is the most joyous time in my life. I
love you and am so proud of you. Welcome to full adult Godhood, my
children, and ALL that goes with it! Now, what would you like to do
